Well I'm at the beach for week 2 :) This week at Garden City and today it has rained :( so I've had plenty of time to work on back to school ideas. I'm definately thinking about a beack theme for my classroom with lots of windows and beach scenes in them. Now I just need a catchy saying for my door. Last year my school did a sports theme and called it "Champions of Learning" and my class was Whitlock's Winners, but this year I'm stuck and sure could use some help!! Please let me know of any ideas you have :)

Vacation
This week I have been hanging out at Edisto Beach and getting lots of ideas for my new classroom! Thanks to a post on my last blog from Jennifer I'm thinking about making windows to hang in my room. I would like to have a beach theme inside my room, but I am still debating it. I think that putting pictures of my students in the windows would give it a "homey" feel and make the kiddos feel special. Please keep the suggestions coming! Having a blank slate to work with is great to start over, but hard to get ideas flowing.

Getting Ready...
Well as the beginning of school gets closer and closer I am getting ready to decorate my new classroom. This year the theme at Hendrix is "Windows to the World". I'm excited about having a new classroom at a new school, but I'm a little nervous about working with the CCC rubric. If you have any ideas for great decorations to go with this theme that have a warm and cozy feeling, please feel free to share your ideas. :)

Welcome!
Welcome to Miss Whitlock's Class Blog! My name is Hailey Whitlock and I am a first grade teacher at Hendrix Elementary in Spartanburg District 2. This will be my third year teaching and my second year teaching first grade. I spent my first two years of teaching in Oconee County near Lake Keowee. I now live in Lyman, but I grew up in Liberty which is about ten minutes from Clemson. I spend my Saturdays in the fall at Clemson football games and love cheering on the tigers! I am engaged to Michael Maus who teaches PE at Byrnes Freshman Acadamy and is the head baseball coach. In the spring I spend my times cheering on the Rebels baseball team. I played softball at Erskine College where I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I am currently working to complete my masters degree in Technology in Education through Lesley University.
I can't wait to meet my new students and continue to blog about our experiences this year. :)
